In Greek mythology, the goddess of love was the Goddess Aphrodite, who was born from the sea foam. According to the ancient Greek lyric poet Anacreon, a white rose covered her body when she was born from the sea foam.
And the rose remained white until the moment Aphrodite learned that Adonis, her beloved, was in danger of being killed. As she rushes to warn Adonis, she is scratched by a rosebush, splashing its soft white petals with drops of blood, turning the blossoms red.
